Post Modernism and Post-Post Modernism: A Look at American Literature
A lecture by Christian Dumais
On October 25, 2006, Christian Dumais delivered the lecture “Post Modernism and Post- Post Modernism: A look at American Literature” at American Corner. Devoted to the American literature, the lecture examined the differences in post modernism and post- post modernism concerning the process of storytelling and shaping characters in a story. Mr. Dumais leaded the audience through the secrets of modern American literature, showing its characteristic features such as fact blending with fiction, the destruction of chronology, or the emergence of metafiction. He basically highlighted two names Donald Barthelme and Raymond Carver, who being two sides of the same coin, both have casted a huge shadow on literature that carries over to nowadays. Thanks to witty storytelling and attractive “PowerPoint” presentation the audience found the lecture very interesting as an opportunity to outline the major trends in American literature.
